Syndicate Ridge
Photos taken on 8th December 2003 of the walk down Syndicate Ridge from Dorrigo to Bellingen

One of the rollers. These wheels guided the wire rope used to pull the trams with the hoop pine logs.

These antarctic beeches had a coppicing habit, and were very old.

The tram tracks were made of wood, not steel or iron.

Another of the guiding wheels, this time with some bush engineering added.

A hoop pine, Araucaria cunninghamii.
This was the type of tree that the timber getters were after.

Another coppiced antarctic beech.
In this case the original tree has long since rotted away.

A fallen piece of hoop pine, showing the distinctive leaves.

Yet another coppiced antarctic beech.
In this case the original trunk is still there, though dead, broken off at the top, and rotting into the ground.

Photo of the tramline in operation.

Another of the welcome "You are here" signs. So often when bushwalking, you have only a very general idea of where you are!

We stopped at the winching station for lunch. Nothing much is left on this flat area.

Brian checking the sign.
