Puffball Fungus

When hit with a stick, this fungus releases clouds of spores. At maturity, the bulk of the fruiting body of the puffball consists of powdery spores. Mature puffballs are simply bags of spores, with the bag being somewhat elastic. Most have an opening at the top, but this one has a few openings showing. There appears to have been an outer very thin layer which has dried and peeled away, and a thicker inner coating which has been damaged by the sheep and cattle in the paddock, but still allowing the spores to be released.
