Dead Fox

Graziers in this area regularly set baits of the poison 1080 which is poisonous to dingoes and other dogs, and foxes.

It has the advantage that most Australian native animals are unaffected by it, since the active ingredient is part of many Australian native plants, who evolved to produce it in an attempt to stop browsing, in much the same way as cabbage plants evolved sulfur compounds to stop being eaten by insects. In the case of the Australian animals, they co-evolved, and became immune to it.

In the case of cabbages, the cabbage butterfly evolved to specialise on cabbage plants. This sort of arms race is common.
